CCTV is a catch-all acronym. It means Closed Circuit TeleVision. It is the industry standard in surveillance cameras. CCTV can be a single camera, a network of camera(s) or multiple networks of cameras linked together via switches, the internet or wide area computer technology. CCTV Video data is analog but can be converted to digital via CCTV Digital Video Recorders. Once the video data is digital it can be managed just like any other computer data and can be stored automatically on computers and network storage devices.

Consider the following when choosing a CCTV surveillance camera:
  1. Make a sketch of the surveillance area with planned camera locations indicated.
  2. Take photos of the areas you want covered from the proposed camera locations.
  3. Determine the resolution you need. (Do you want to see a person's face or a car license plate?)
  4. Determine the potential of vandalism.
  5. What type of ambeint lighting is available during the time you want the camera operational?
  6. What are your budget restrictions? As with all things in life, the better cameras are more expensive, but please keep in mind the following: A low cost camera is better than no camera especially when used in conjunction with our Dummy cameras.

Once you have the above information, you can use it to select  the camera/surveillance system that best meets your needs or contact us and we will be glad to help you in your selection.

What is the difference between surveillance camera systems and security camera systems?

According to Webster's, surveillance is close and continuous observation and security is precautions taken to guard against crime, attack, sabotage, espionage, etc.

Surveillance camera systems are usually the first line of detection/protection. They are usually under manned systems with their signals being fed into a  recorder or numerous monitors watched by one person. They usually have a fixed focal point.

Security systems are the second line of defense/protection. Security camera systems are usually better manned than surveillance systems. Security cameras usually have a variable focal point allowing the operator to 'zoom'. PTZ security cameras allow the operator to Pan, Tilt, and Zoom.
